A suspected case of food poisoning in Gujarat's Ahmedabad has resulted in the deaths of two young girls and left their parents in critical condition, prompting an investigation by local authorities. The incident occurred in the Chandkheda area after a family allegedly consumed dosa made from ready-made batter purchased from a local dairy.

The victims include a three-month-old infant and a four-year-old child, who died during treatment. Their parents are currently hospitalised, with doctors reporting their condition as serious. 2 Minor Girls Die After ‘Eating Dosa Made From Ready-Made Batter’

]According to family members, the batter was purchased from Ghanshyam Dairy on IOC Road. The father reportedly consumed dosa made from the batter first and fell ill the next morning, experiencing vomiting and other symptoms.

Unaware of the suspected cause, the mother later consumed the same batter and also fed dosa to their four-year-old daughter. Both subsequently developed similar symptoms, after which the entire family was hospitalised. Food Poisoning in Bengaluru Rural: Around 60 Fall Ill After Consuming Ram Navami Prasad in Karnataka, All Stable.

The deaths of the two children have raised concerns, particularly in the case of the three-month-old infant. Officials noted that infants are typically not given solid food, prompting questions about how the child may have been affected.

One possibility being examined is whether the infant may have been impacted indirectly, such as through breastfeeding after the mother fell ill. Authorities have stated that the exact cause will only be confirmed after detailed medical and forensic analysis.

The Ahmedabad Police has launched an investigation into the case. Food samples have been collected to test for possible contamination or adulteration.

Post-mortem examinations of the deceased children are currently underway, and assistance has been sought from the Forensic Science Laboratory to determine the precise cause of death. Officials said the investigation will examine all possible angles, including food poisoning, contamination in the batter, or any other contributing factors.

The owner of Ghanshyam Dairy has denied that the batter was contaminated, stating that the same batch was sold to multiple customers without complaints.

According to the owner and his family, CCTV records show that several customers purchased batter from the same container before and after the affected family. They claim that no other cases of illness have been reported.

The dairy also stated that it produces large quantities of batter daily and maintains records to track distribution, asserting that the product is prepared under standard conditions.

An official from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation confirmed that the food safety department has initiated an inquiry into the incident. Authorities are expected to rely on laboratory test results and post-mortem findings to determine whether the deaths were caused by contaminated food or other factors.
