The incident occurred on June 30 in Gundala village of Gondal taluka. The deceased has been identified as Ram Babubhai Bambhava. According to investigators, the autopsy revealed that the death was caused by poisoning and strangulation, contradicting the initial claim of suicide.
Police said the case took a dramatic turn after the post-mortem report indicated signs of homicide. Following the medical findings, the victim's wife, who had been married to Ram for just four months, filed a formal complaint against her in-laws, prompting a detailed investigation.
According to the police investigation, Ram struggled with alcohol addiction, which frequently led to arguments with his parents, his father, Babubhai alias Atulbhai Ghughabhai Bambhava, and his mother, Manishaben alias Motiben.
Investigators alleged that on the day of the incident, an argument over his drinking escalated into violence. Police claim the mother forced Ram to consume acid, while the father assaulted him and later strangled him. These are allegations made by the police during the investigation and are yet to be tested in court.
Police further alleged that after Ram's death, his father attempted to portray the incident as suicide. According to investigators, Babubhai allegedly contacted local political leaders in an effort to influence the process and facilitate a quick panel post-mortem at Gondal Civil Hospital without attracting suspicion.
However, police said the subsequent investigation and forensic examination uncovered evidence indicating that the death resulted from poisoning and strangulation, leading investigators to treat the case as homicide.
Police are continuing their investigation into the case. The accused will face trial, and the allegations against them are yet to be adjudicated by the court.
