In a significant crackdown on food adulteration, the Gujarat Police raided a manufacturing unit in the Chhatral GIDC area near Gandhinagar, uncovering an illicit operation producing counterfeit (adulterated ghee using palm oil and various chemicals. Authorities have seized adulterated products and raw materials with an estimated market value of approximately INR 1.67 crore. Acting on specific intelligence received by Range DIG Virendra Singh Yadav, a police team conducted the raid at a facility operating under the name Happy Oil Industries, located at Godown No. D/48 in Yogeshwar Estate, Kalol taluka.

Large-Scale Adulteration Network in Gandhinagar

Police reports indicate that the operators used a mix of refined palm oil, crude palm oil, and unidentified chemical additives to mimic the texture, colour, and aroma of genuine dairy ghee. The product was then packaged and sold in the retail market, often under the labels of well-known and reputable brands to deceive unsuspecting consumers. "We seized material worth INR 1.67 crore, including adulterated ghee, adulterated palm oil and other chemicals, from Happy Oil Industries in Chhatral GIDC," Range Inspector General Virendra Singh Yadav said, reports PTI.

Official Response and Seizure

Following the discovery, senior Food Safety Officers and Scientific Officers from the Gandhinagar district were summoned to the site to inspect the premises and conduct a formal inventory. Authorities seized thousands of kilograms of the suspected fake ghee, stored in various barrels and tin containers, alongside the raw materials used in the manufacturing process. Samples have been officially sealed and dispatched to a state forensic laboratory for detailed chemical analysis to determine the specific additives used.

Ongoing Investigation in Connection With the Incident

The police have identified an individual named Janakkumar Nathalal Bhavsar as the alleged mastermind behind the operation. A criminal case has been registered, and investigations are currently underway to trace the full distribution chain. Law enforcement officials are working to identify the traders and retailers who purchased the bulk product for repackaging and distribution. Efforts are also focused on dismantling the wider network that facilitated the supply of these counterfeit goods to markets across the state.
