Gurugram: MCG Sacks 4 Contractual Employees for Using AI-Generated Images, GPS Spoofing To Fake Garbage Clearance Work
The Gurugram Municipal Corporation (MCG) has terminated four contractual employees after finding that they used artificial intelligence tools and GPS spoofing to fake compliance with their civic duties, including garbage clearance work that was never actually carried out.
The Gurugram Municipal Corporation (MCG) has terminated four contractual employees after finding that they used artificial intelligence tools and GPS spoofing to fake compliance with their civic duties, including garbage clearance work that was never actually carried out.
According to Municipal Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya, the employees were assigned to sanitation and property tax-related duties but instead attempted to mislead the authorities using manipulated digital records rather than performing the work on the ground.
AI-Generated Images Used To Fake Garbage Clearance
One of the terminated employees, a sanitation department worker identified as Wasim, allegedly used AI tools to generate fake images showing garbage-cleared areas and uploaded them to the official portal as proof of having addressed complaints. Officials said the areas in question were, in reality, still covered in waste, and that Wasim never visited the locations he claimed to have cleared. GPS Spoofing Used To Fake Attendance
In a separate case, a contractual employee named Sonu allegedly used GPS spoofing technology to manipulate his location data and mark attendance as being in Gurugram, while officials said he was actually nearly 50 kilometres away in Jhajjar at the time. Irregularities Found In Property Tax Department
The civic body also flagged irregularities involving two employees in the property tax department, Neeraj Vashisth and Ankur Arora. They were accused of raising unnecessary objections in property ID-related cases and failing to follow the prescribed standard operating procedures.
Following the findings, the MCG terminated the services of all four contractual employees.
How The Misconduct Was Detected
Dahiya said the corporation's digital monitoring systems flagged the alleged misuse of technology and other violations. He said the software used by the civic body is specifically designed to detect suspicious activity and attempts to manipulate official records.
He added that the MCG does not rely solely on digital submissions from field staff and regularly conducts physical verification of work on the ground to cross-check the accuracy of uploaded reports.
A Warning Against Misuse Of Technology
Officials said the action against the four employees is intended to serve as a warning against the misuse of technology in public administration, and reflects the corporation's broader push to strengthen accountability and transparency in civic governance.
