Hyderabad Hit-and-Run Video: Police SI Dies After Speeding Bike Hits Him During Ganesh Duty

A Sub-Inspector of Police deployed for Ganesh idol immersion duty in Hyderabad was killed after a speeding two-wheeler hit him near NTR Marg on the banks of Hussain Sagar Lake, police said. The rider fled the spot following the collision, and an investigation is underway to trace the accused. The deceased officer was identified as K. Venkanna, who was posted at Kothagudem II Town Police Station in Telangana’s Bhadradri Kothagudem district. He had been called to Hyderabad for security arrangements during the annual Ganesh immersion and was deployed on night duty at NTR Marg, a key immersion point.

The incident took place around 2 am on Wednesday when Venkanna was crossing the road with another police official. A speeding motorcycle struck him, causing him to fall on the road and suffer injuries to his head and other parts of the body. The motorcycle rider fled the scene. Venkanna initially received treatment at a private hospital and later went to Saifabad Police Station to lodge a complaint. His condition worsened later in the day, and he was taken to MGM Hospital in Warangal. Doctors found a blood clot in his brain, and he died while undergoing treatment on Wednesday evening. The collision was captured on CCTV, and police registered a case at Saifabad Police Station. Police have traced the motorcycle, while preliminary investigation indicated that the rider had fled Hyderabad. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend him. The death occurred as Hyderabad was preparing for the major Ganesh immersion procession scheduled for Friday. Police personnel from across Telangana have been mobilised for the event, with around 30,000 personnel deployed for security arrangements. Traffic restrictions are also scheduled on several major roads, including NTR Marg, Tank Bund and Necklace Road, during the immersion period. Senior police officials expressed condolences to Venkanna’s family following his death while performing immersion-duty responsibilities.
