Investigators said Govardhan allegedly purchased a knife online a few days before the attack. In the early hours of Friday, he reportedly climbed into the corridor of the woman's apartment building from an adjacent structure and entered the house when a family member opened the kitchen door.
Police said the accused first threatened the woman's elder sister with the knife. When other family members intervened, he allegedly attacked the woman, her parents, sister and uncle, inflicting injuries on their hands and face. Hyderabad Shocker: Woman Alleges Forced Conversion, Rape, and Blackmail by Husband, Family.
The victims' cries alerted neighbours, who rushed to the house, overpowered the accused and handed him over to the police. All five injured persons were taken to hospital and are reported to be out of danger.
Police Recover Knife, Register Attempt to Murder Case
Raidurgam police recovered the knife allegedly used in the attack and confirmed that it had been purchased through an e-commerce platform for ₹249. Officers are examining the purchase details as part of the investigation.
Based on the woman's complaint, police registered a case under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (attempt to murder). The accused was produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.
The complainant told police that the accused had allegedly assaulted her once before in April after she refused to continue the relationship and had repeatedly threatened to kill her and her family if she did not reconcile with him. Investigators are examining these allegations along with the circumstances leading up to the latest attack.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns over stalking and violence linked to rejected relationships, with police urging victims of persistent harassment or threats to report such incidents at the earliest so preventive action can be taken.
