IAF Wing Commander Arrested in Cyber Espionage Case After Being Honey-Trapped by Pakistani Handler
An IAF wing commander has been arrested and charged under the Official Secrets Act after falling victim to a Pakistani honey trap espionage operation, authorities confirmed. Investigating agencies initiated surveillance in January 2026 after identifying suspicious activity involving an international phone number linked to Pakistani intelligence. Routine monitoring revealed consistent communication between the foreign line and the IAF officer. Investigators noted that the officer, who was reportedly navigating a personal crisis at the time, was honey-trapped by the operative posing as a woman. The Pakistani handler subsequently used the recorded media to blackmail the wing commander, coercing him into sharing classified materials. According to police sources, these included photographs of his base camp, details on troop movements, and sensitive documents regarding ongoing defense research. The handler further directed the officer to install spyware on a senior colleague’s phone-a malicious program designed to steal data, track locations, and log calls and texts remotely. Upon detecting the breach, police alerted the IAF, which placed the officer under active surveillance at his field unit post before taking decisive action. Following his arrest, the wing commander was remanded to Tihar Jail in judicial custody. The Delhi Police Special Cell formally submitted a chargesheet to the competent court on July 30, and the matter remains sub-judice. If convicted under the Official Secrets Act, the officer faces up to 14 years in prison.
