The Indian Navy frontline frigate INS Trikand successfully thwarted a piracy attempt on a merchant vessel in the Gulf of Aden on Wednesday night, military sources confirmed. The vessel, identified as the MV Golden Arsenal, was transporting critical cargo bound for India and had one Indian crew member on board at the time of the incident. Upon realizing that pirates were attempting to board the ship, the crew immediately implemented emergency safety protocols. The crew members locked themselves inside the vessel's designated safe room, or citadel, and alerted maritime authorities through an emergency communication channel.

As the heavily armed INS Trikand approached the scene to intercept the threat, the pirates aborted their boarding attempt and fled the area. Highly trained Indian Navy Marine Commandos (MARCOS) subsequently boarded the MV Golden Arsenal to conduct comprehensive sanitization operations, ensuring the vessel was safe to continue its journey. This successful intervention is part of a pattern of recent antipiracy operations conducted by the Indian Navy, which has seen heightened activity in the region over recent weeks. On June 19, INS Trikand responded to a similar distress call from the MV Fareeda 5 following a suspected piracy attempt in the Western Indian Ocean. Prompt maneuvering and investigation by the naval frigate successfully deterred that threat as well. Additionally, on May 27, another Indian warship, INS Kolkata, foiled a piracy attempt targeting the MV Mashallah 1 in the same region. That operation involved utilizing an onboard helicopter alongside specialized boarding teams to secure the merchant craft.
