IndiGo and Air India have issued travel advisories urging passengers to check their flight status before heading to the airport, as heavy rainfall continues to disrupt normal life across Mumbai and its surrounding regions. The downpour has caused severe waterlogging, traffic congestion, and delays to flight schedules at one of India's busiest airports.
Flight Operations Affected
IndiGo said in its advisory that bad weather over Mumbai has affected flight schedules, and assured passengers that operations are being closely monitored. The airline asked travellers to track their flight status through its website or mobile app, adding that ground staff are assisting passengers to keep travel as smooth as possible under the circumstances. Mumbai Rains: Where Did It Rain the Most? Air India issued a similar warning, stating on July 2 that it was closely tracking the situation and working to minimise disruption. The airline asked passengers to confirm their updated flight status before leaving for the airport, adding that its ground teams in Mumbai would extend assistance and thanking passengers for their patience.
Waterlogging and Traffic Disruption Across the City
The advisories come as continuous heavy showers lash Maharashtra, with severe waterlogging reported in several parts of Mumbai, including Mahim, disrupting vehicular movement across the city. Similar conditions were reported in Navi Mumbai, where roads near Turbhe railway station and stretches of the Thane-Belapur Road were submerged, affecting daily commuters. Mumbai Rains: Andheri and Malad Subways Closed for Traffic Due to Severe Waterlogging (Watch Video).
The relentless rain has also led to water entering homes and shops in low-lying areas, prompting authorities to issue alerts in vulnerable zones. Civic officials have urged residents to avoid non-essential travel and stay indoors unless necessary while the heavy rainfall continues.
Schools Shut, Damage Reported Across Mumbai
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced that all schools and colleges in Mumbai would remain closed for the afternoon session on July 4, 2026, as the city continues to deal with the impact of the rain.
According to the BMC, heavy rainfall and strong winds over the past 24 hours have led to more than 91 incidents of fallen trees and branches, around 30 short circuits, and 19 cases of wall collapse across the city. Authorities say they remain on alert, with forecasts indicating that rainfall is likely to continue in several parts of Maharashtra in the coming days.
