The nine arrested suspects include one Bangladeshi national, five residents of West Bengal, and three individuals from Assam, exposing a deeply entrenched cross-border and inter-state smuggling network. Preliminary investigations suggest the primates were illegally captured from the newly notified Chikna Jwhwlao National Park. Authorities suspect local forest encroachers captured the animals before selling them to the trafficking syndicate.
The rescued golden langurs have been handed over to regional forest officials for immediate medical attention and rehabilitation. The STF has initiated detailed interrogations to uncover the broader international links of the network.
