New Delhi, October 11: A special court in Delhi ordered to produce senior Congress leader P Chidambaram before it. Hearing the plea of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the INX Media case, the special court asked Chidambaram to appear before it on October 14 at 3 pm. The probing agency lodged a money laundering case against Chidambaram in 2017 in connection to the alleged flouting of norms to allow Rs 305 crore foreign infusion into the Peter Mukherjea-promoted media firm. P Chidambaram Allowed Home-Cooked Food Once a Day While in Judicial Custody in INX Media Case.

Earlier in the day, the ED moved the special court in Delhi seeking custody of the Congress leader the lNX media case. The ED on Thursday also challenged the September 5 order of the special court in the Delhi High Court granting relief to Chidambaram and his son Karti. The probing agency contended that the pre-arrest bail in a case of the economic offence was unwarranted and urged the high court to set aside the trial court's order granting relief to Chidambaram's and cancel their anticipatory bail. Chidambaram is currently in the judicial custody in the INX media case handled by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The CBI is probing the corruption charges against Chidambaram in the INX Media case. Chidambaram was the Finance Minister when the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) gave Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) clearance to INX Media in 2007. P Chidambaram Denied Bail by Delhi High Court in INX Media Case, to Remain in Jail.

The CBI had registered an FIR on May 15, 2017. Thereafter, the ED lodged a money laundering case against him in the same year. The former Finance Minister was arrested by the CBI from his residence on August 21. The investigative agency also accused the senior Congress leader of "destroying" evidence of his meeting with Indrani Mukerjea, who has turned approver in the case.
