Srinagar, Sep 21: Hours after Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists killed three Special Police Officers (SPOs) in south Kashmir's Shopian district, at least four SPOs resigned from the Jammu and Kashmir police on Friday. One of the SPOs who resigned from the police force is identified as Irshad Ahmed Baba, a resident of Shopian. Different reports are quoting different numbers.

Earlier today, the police recovered bullet-ridden bodies of three abducted police officers in Shopian. The martyred cops have been identified as Firdous Ahmad Kuchai, Nisar Ahmad Dhobi and Kuldeep. The fourth abducted person, a civilian, was reportedly released unharmed. The four people were kidnapped on Thursday night from Kapran and Batgund villages.

The abductions and killings of persons related to security forces started two days after terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen threatened to kill every Kashmiri working for Jammu and Kashmir Police, Indian Army and all other security forces as well as the central government if they did not resign within the next four days. Their spokesperson Umar Ibn Khitaab reportedly issued the warning.

In a video message released on Tuesday, Hizbul Mujahideen asked Kashmiris working for security forces and central agencies to “quit their jobs and upload the evidence of their resignations on the internet'. “Let us and the world see that you all rejected the occupation and joined our struggle for independence (of Kashmir from India)," the voice in the video threatened.

“But let it be clear that your resignations will not be accepted after four days. All you will get is death at our hands, you all will be murdered," the voice warned.
