Jammu, February 22: One terrorist was gunned down in Jammu and Kashmir after a gunfight broke out between security forces and militants on Friday. Reports inform that the encounter broke out in Warpora village of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on late Thursday night. More than two  terrorists are believed to be trapped as of now. The encounter is currently underway. "As the cordon around the hiding militants was tightened, they fired at the security forces triggering the ongoing encounter," the police said. Jammu And Kashmir: 26 CRPF Jawans Martyred in JeM Attack in Awantipora. 

The encounter comes less than a week after the deadly Pulwama attack which killed 40 CRPF jawans. In the wake of the ongoing gunfight, authorities have suspended mobile Internet services in Sopore and adjoining areas. Restrictions have been imposed in the town to maintain law and order. The encounter broke out between militants and security forces in Baramulla's Sopore on Friday morning.

Earlier this week, security forces had gunned down the mastermind of the Pulwama attack along with two other terrorists of Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM).  A Major and four other security personnel were also martyred in the encounter. Deputy Inspector General of Police, South Kashmir, Amit Kumar, was also injured in the gunbattle between militants and security forces in Pinglana area of the district.
