Jammu, Sep 12: Three terrorists on Wednesday opened fire at police personnel posted on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway. According to details by Dr SD S Jamwal, IGP Jammu, the terrorists fired from a parked truck and fled from the spot. Jamwal informed that the J&K police has arrested two accomplices of the terrorists and a search operation has been launched. The Police has issued an advisory for people to stay indoors. No casualties have been reported in the incident.

A massive cordon and search operation has been launched in Jhajar Kotli area of Jammu district on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway after some suspected terrorists were seen in the area. "We have arrested 2 accomplices of the terrorists. Terrorists attacked an employee of forest deptt. in Jhajjar Kotli We have issued an advisory for people to stay indoors. We are conducting search Op", Jamwal was quoted by ANI.

In the wake of the incident, security was beefed up Katra, the base camp of the Mata Vaishno Devi cave shrine, and on all roads leading to the town. Reports inform that the truck was intercepted by a police team after a chase at Jhajar Kotli and the suspected militants fired on them from the vehicle before fleeing.

According to details by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Jammu, Vivek Gupta, as soon as firing was reported, the police personnel posted at a check post on the highway, signalled a truck to stop, but it sped away. He informed that an AK assault rifle and three magazines were seized from the truck during a search.
