A minor girl was found beheaded in a forested area within the limits of Dhanbad’s Baliapur police station, triggering widespread panic among local residents. The girl's body was recovered in separate pieces from the forest near Dhanging Basti, located in front of the Chatniya bridge and ahead of the Marai Than. The discovery drew a large crowd of villagers to the scene, following which police, a forensic team, and a dog squad reached the spot to begin a full-scale investigation.
The girl's head was reportedly found inside a plastic sack, while her torso was recovered from a different spot within the forest, India Today reported. During the crime scene examination, police recovered incense sticks and some puja materials. The recovery of the religious items led several local residents to suspect that the murder could be linked to human sacrifice, or 'narbali'. However, police clarified that there is currently no confirmation connecting the materials to the crime, and cautioned against reaching conclusions before the ongoing investigation is complete. The deceased was identified as a 17-year-old minor originally from Bengabad in Giridih, who had been residing with relatives in Maniadih, Dhanbad. Family members and relatives reached the site after receiving news of the recovery.
City SP Ritwik Srivastava stated that the girl's father had reported her missing at a local police station on the previous evening. Following the report, police summoned a young man with whom the girl was reportedly in a relationship for questioning. According to law enforcement officials, the girl and the young man had been living together in a rented house, and investigators are actively examining his potential role in the case. The victim's family alleged that her relationship with the young man, who hails from the same village, had previously triggered a community dispute that required a local panchayat intervention. According to the family, the young man had been jailed following that dispute. Upon his release, he reportedly took the girl with him to live in a rented accommodation in Karmatand, Dhanbad.
Relatives stated that discussions were ongoing to bring both parties to the police station for a formal settlement, but the girl was killed before the meeting took place. The family has formally accused the young man, his father, and his aunt of involvement in the murder, claiming the youth's father strongly opposed the relationship. Police noted that these allegations have not been independently verified.
The forensic team gathered multiple samples from the crime scene, while the dog squad was deployed to assist officers in gathering clues.
Police confirmed that the investigation remains open and no potential motives have been ruled out. City SP Ritwik Srivastava stated that investigators are evaluating whether the young man, a relative, or another individual was involved. Regarding suspicions of human sacrifice, authorities reiterated that conclusions can only be drawn after the completion of the forensic examination and thorough questioning of all connected parties.
