Mumbai, January 7: The violence in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus in New Delhi on Sunday triggered a nationwide outrage. Protests were organised across the nation to denounce the attack on students, teachers and vandalism inside the prestigious university. In Mumbai, protesters, who had gathered at the Gateway of India on Tuesday to raise their voices against the attack on JNU students, were evicted by Mumbai Police. The protesters were relocated to Azad Maidan. Protesters were seen singing songs and holding placards while demonstrating against the incident. Thousands hit the streets in large numbers blockading roads and shouting slogans.

According to a tweet by ANI, Sangramsingh Nishandar, DCP (Zone 1) said roads were getting blocked and people were facing inconvenience. "Common Mumbaikar and tourists were facing problems. On Monday, hundreds had assembled at Mumbai’s Hutatma Chowk to protest against the violence at JNU. Bollywood celebrities including Anurag Kashyap, Anubhav Sinha, Tapsee Pannu, Zoya Akhtar, Diya Mirza and Rahul Bose on Monday took part in a protest at Carter Road.

On Sunday, the JNU campus was rocked by violence allegedly by unidentified goons who had covered their faces. According to reports, the incident occurred after a masked mob entered the varsity and attacked them and teachers with sticks and rods. Over 30 students of the university, including JNUSU president Aishe Ghosh, were injured and were taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre.
