Kalyan: Woman Suffering From Mental Health Issues Dies After Consuming Rice Mixed With Rat Poison
A 69-year-old woman from Kalyan, Shobha Vasudev Dalvi, died at Mumbai's Sion Hospital after consuming cooked rice mixed with rat poison at her Sapadgaon home on September 5 while her son was out for Dahi Handi. A 69-year-old woman from Kalyan in Maharashtra's Thane district died at a civic-run hospital in Mumbai while undergoing medical treatment for poisoning, a police official said on Sunday, September 20. The deceased, identified as Shobha Vasudev Dalvi, had been suffering from mental health issues and allegedly mixed rat poison paste into cooked rice before consuming it at her residence.
The incident took place on September 5 at her home in Sapadgaon when her son was away to participate in Dahi Handi festivities, PTI reported. Upon returning home, her son discovered that she had fallen severely ill and immediately rushed her to a local healthcare facility in the vicinity."Her health deteriorated some time later and she was rushed to a nearby hospital by her son. Doctors there advised that she be shifted to Sion Hospital in Mumbai for advanced care. Dalvi died while undergoing treatment there on September 9," the Khadakpada police station official said.

Following the receipt of the clinical records and post-mortem paperwork from Sion Hospital, the Thane police initiated formal legal formalities.
On the basis of hospital reports and the son's statement that he did not suspect any criminal activity, an accidental death report was registered on September 18, the official said. The Khadakpada police have concluded that there is no indication of foul play involved in the incident.
