Karnataka: 17-Year-Old Dalit Girl Raped Repeatedly by 5 Men; Case Registered Under POCSO Act

Mangaluru, July 9: In another incident of sexual assault, a 17-year-old Dalit girl became pregnant after being repeatedly raped by five men in Karnataka's Mangaluru district. The minor is six-month pregnant. The accused has been identified as Ganesh Naik, Krishnappa, Pavan, Punith and auto driver Dhanush. According to a report published in the The Times of India, girl in her complaint alleged that her cousin Ganesh, took her to Subrahmanya and booked a lodge for two days in December last year where he raped her. According to the report, another accused Pawan who befriended the victim over a phone and autorickshaw driver Dhanush also sexually assaulted her. The fifth accused Punith who is known to the victim also raped. After she learnt about her pregnancy, the victim told to all the accused, who threatened to kill her if she tells anyone.

The incident came to light when ASHA workers who visited the girl’s house learnt that she was raped by several men, due to which she became pregnant. The police nabbed three accused, while the other two were absconding.
