The case was registered following a complaint by the Dharwad District Child Protection Unit, which alleged violations under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and other applicable laws.

According to police, the minor was allegedly lured and s*xually assaulted on multiple occasions in 2025, resulting in pregnancy. Investigators also allege that her parents concealed the pregnancy and did not inform the authorities as required under the law.

Police said that after the child was born, the parents allegedly handed the newborn over to another family. Investigators are examining allegations that the infant may have been sold. According to the complaint, the girl is now reportedly pregnant again. Police have not disclosed further details as the investigation is ongoing.

Parents and Doctors Named in FIR

The FIR also names the girl's parents for allegedly failing to notify the relevant authorities despite knowing she was a minor. Two private doctors have been booked over allegations that they provided medical treatment without following mandatory legal procedures and failed to report a case involving a minor, as required under the law.
