Two siblings in Karnataka’s Davangere district exhumed their mother’s body on Saturday, three months after her burial, to demand a fresh post-mortem and a thorough investigation into her death. The sons, Manjunath and Venkatesh, maintain that their mother, 58-year-old Iramma, was murdered on 24 April and have accused the police of attempting to cover up the crime.

As per a report by ETV Bharat, the deceased had passed away on 29 April in Adapura village, located in the Harihar taluk. Following her initial death, her sons had filed a formal complaint against 11 individuals, alleging that neighbours had attacked her during a dispute over land. While an initial post-mortem was conducted at the time, the family rejected the findings, labelling the report as falsified. IPS Trainee Booked for Alleged S*xual Harassment at Hyderabad Police Academy.

Allegations of a Police Cover-Up

According to the complainants, the original post-mortem process was conducted with undue haste, prompting their drastic decision to retrieve the remains. On Saturday night, the siblings exhumed the body and transported it via motorcycle to the Davangere District Hospital, insisting that only a second examination would provide the justice they seek.

The siblings have expressed deep frustration with the authorities, stating that despite their repeated efforts to secure an impartial investigation, they have yet to see any meaningful progress. They contend that the initial police response failed to hold the accused accountable for their mother’s death.

Police Response and Investigation Status

Malebennur Police Sub-Inspector Haroon Akhtar confirmed that a case was previously registered against 11 suspects following the initial complaint of a suspicious death. He noted that six of the accused individuals have since fled the village, and efforts are currently underway to locate and apprehend them. Delhi Man Arrested in Uttar Pradesh for Murder of Wife Using Scissors.
