A 33-year-old tourist from Karnataka lost his life after being swept away by powerful waves while sitting on rocks at Goa's popular Baga Beach, officials said on Wednesday. The tragic incident has once again highlighted the dangers of venturing onto rocky shorelines during rough sea conditions.

The deceased was identified as Sahas Ashpak Masali, a resident of Karnataka's Bijapur district.

According to preliminary information, Masali was sitting on rocks along the shoreline when a series of strong waves struck the area, dragging him into the sea. Despite immediate efforts to locate him, strong currents carried him away, making rescue operations difficult. Birthday Trek Turns Tragic: Ketan Vishal Agarwal Dies After Falling Into Gorge at Lohagad Fort in Lonavala.

Authorities launched a search and rescue operation soon after receiving the alert. After several hours of searching, rescue personnel recovered Masali's body from the shoreline.

A video purportedly showing the incident has gone viral on social media. The footage appears to capture the tourist struggling in turbulent waters after being overwhelmed by the waves near the rocky coastline. Poor visibility and rough sea conditions reportedly hampered rescue efforts, while bystanders on the shore watched the incident unfold in shock. Mysuru: Bride-To-Be and Parents Die by Suicide Days Before Wedding After Man Sends Private Photos to Fiancé.

Following the tragedy, officials have reiterated their appeal to tourists to avoid sitting or walking on rocks along the coastline, particularly during high tide and rough weather. They warned that large waves can hit unexpectedly, making rocky coastal areas extremely dangerous even for experienced swimmers.

Authorities have also urged visitors to follow safety advisories, obey warning signs, and avoid entering the sea when weather conditions are unsafe. The incident serves as a reminder that popular beaches can become hazardous during the monsoon season, when sea conditions often change rapidly.
