Thiruvananthapuram, August 16: Kerala saw its worst day on Thursday in terms of deaths due to floods as 30 people lost their lives in a single day, taking the death toll to at least 97 in the deadly Kerala floods. In the latest update, Airlines have waived off rescheduling and cancellation charges on tickets to flood affected Kerala, acting on the instruction of Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

The Supreme Court Bar Association said that Rs 30 lakh will be transferred for Kerala flood relief operations, reported news agency PTI.

Thousands have been evacuated and according to news agency ANI, 11 are missing, 41 injured, and over 1,65,538 people are living in the 1155 relief camps. The tweet by ANI, also said that 2,857 houses have been damaged and 3393 hectares of crop loss reported from the state. Check the tweet below:

Following the massive loss of life and property in the state, The Supreme Court on Thursday ordered the National Relief Management Committee to submit its report on the Kerala floods by 2 PM on Friday. A red alert has been declared in all the districts of the state.

The Supreme Court has also asked the high power committee to convene a meeting by Friday morning in connection with the rising water level in Mullaperiyar Dam in Kerala.

Rescue operations were held by Coast Guard helicopters over Ernakulam, earlier on Thursday. 132 people have been rescued from Thrissur, Aluva and Perumbavoor by Coast Guard helicopters.

As a result of the floods in Kerala, Cochin International Airport or Kochi Airport will remain closed till August 26. According to reports, the Periyar river has flooded the airport, and therefore it will not be available up to 2 pm on August 26. All the flights will remain suspended until then. Southern Railways has already suspended its services and public transportation as well as life in Kerala has come to a standstill with people in low lying areas relocated, informed Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
