Kurla Crane Collapse: Over 10 Injured as Heavy Machinery Crashes onto Homes and Railway Line (Video)

At least eight to ten people were injured early Friday morning after a heavy-duty crane and a JCB excavator collapsed onto residential houses and nearby railway infrastructure in the Qureshi Nagar locality of Kurla. The incident occurred around 2:40 AM during a machinery shifting operation linked to an ongoing Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) project. Emergency response teams, local residents, and civic personnel rushed to the scene to carry out rescue operations.

According to initial reports, the crane was in the process of lifting and shifting a JCB excavator when the equipment lost balance mid-air. The sudden failure caused both the crane boom and the heavy machinery to crash downward. Part of the collapsing structure also fell onto Central Railway's overhead electric (OHE) wire between the Kurla and Trombay sections. Railway officials arrived shortly after to assess the damage to the power line infrastructure and initiate restoration work.

Local residents were the first to respond, helping pull trapped individuals out of the damaged homes before civic authorities and police forces arrived. The injured were immediately transferred to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. Authorities confirmed that no fatalities have been reported so far.
