The Opposition has trained guns at the Election Commission, alleging that the polling body has compromised with the security of EVMs in strongrooms. A delegation of 22 Opposition parties met the Election Commission of India (ECI) officials on Tuesday and appealed for VVPAT verification before the counting of votes is initiated. The polling body had earlier announced that the VVPAT slips would be verified after the counting of votes conclude. Among other major national news, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) launched the RISAT-2B (Radar Imaging Satellite-2B), which is set to enhance India's surveillance capabilities. The satellite would sharpen India's counter-terrorism arsenal, by allowing the agencies to track movement of potential infiltrators close to the borders.
On the sporting front, the Indian cricket team had dispatched for the United Kingdom, where the Cricket World Cup 2019 is being held. The first practice match is on May 25, against New Zealand in London. The tournament would officially begin from May 30, with England squaring off against South Africa.
