Rudraprayag, January 28: In a bizarre incident, a groom in Uttarakhand walked for over 6 kms in heavy snowfall to attend his wedding in Rudraprayag. The wedding, held at Makku Math, on Friday was attended by only 25 people as many couldn’t make it to the venue due to heavy snowfall in the region since the past few days. The groom, along with his relatives walked in the snow-clad area to complete his wedding ceremony. According to a report by Hindustan Times, nearly 80 people had left for from Triyuginarayan village in the district to attend Rajnish Kurmachali’s wedding ceremony at Makku Math, but couldn’t reach the place as roads were shut due to heavy snowfall. As the situation worsened, the family decided to send only those who were needed for the wedding rituals which included the groom’s maternal uncle, sisters and some few elderly people. They then trekked a 6km long unique marriage procession to their destination. Ashish Gairola, the groom’s brother was quoted in the HT report saying that it was one of the unique processions and it will be remembered. “We had seen a wedding procession like this in 2002 and now this was the next one. Uttarakhand has been witnessing heavy snowfall since the last week. Several villages in the state have not received any power supply, causing inconvenience to residents of that area. In Uttarakhand, residents have been witnessing biting cold in hilly regions following the new spell of snowfall at several areas across the state. According to reports, people have been charging their phone batteries through their cars due to a power outage.

As per reports, a large number of tourists have reached Mussoorie, Nainital and other tourists hill stations of the state to enjoy the fresh snowfall. Mangesh Ghildilyal, district magistrate of Rudraprayag informed that machines have been deployed to clear the snow in the village but due to incessant snowfall the roads are still blocked.
