Local residents, however, claimed the anger had been building for months. Demonstrators accused local leaders of extortion and demanded accountability amid the changing political landscape in the state.
Eggs Emerging as Symbol of Protest Against TMC Leaders
The incident is not an isolated one. In recent weeks, eggs have increasingly emerged as a symbol of dissent against TMC leaders facing public criticism.
Just days ago, TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee reportedly faced protests in Sonarpur, where demonstrators allegedly shouted slogans and threw eggs and stones during his visit to meet the family of a deceased party worker.
Similar scenes have been witnessed outside police stations and court complexes across West Bengal following the arrest of several TMC leaders and councillors in cases related to alleged corruption, extortion and other offences.
The egg attack on Madan Mitra's vehicle highlights the mounting challenges facing sections of the TMC leadership as public discontent continues to spill onto the streets in the aftermath of the Assembly election setback.
