A 28-year-old Army jawan has been arrested in Maharashtra’s Washim district for allegedly strangling his seven-month-pregnant wife at their home and attempting to present her death as an accident, police said. The case came to light after doctors noticed injuries on the woman’s neck and alerted authorities. The accused, identified as Dnyaneshwar Madne, serves with the Army’s 6 Maratha Battalion. Police registered a murder case against Madne and his parents following a complaint by the woman’s family, India Today reported.

According to the victim’s brother, Rahul Mane, Madne called the family around 3 pm on Thursday and told them that his wife, Dipali, had fallen at home and was admitted to a hospital. Dipali’s family, who live in Burhanpur district of neighbouring Madhya Pradesh, travelled to Washim and reached the area around 7 pm.  Maharashtra Shocker: Man Strangles Lover's Husband in Beed, Tells Her 'Program OK' After Murder; 3 Arrested.

Police said Madne was scheduled to leave for Jammu and Kashmir the following day. Investigators suspect an argument took place between the couple before the alleged killing.

Doctors Raise Suspicion

After the incident, Madne allegedly transported Dipali by ambulance to a private hospital. Doctors there reportedly referred her to a government hospital. Medical staff at the government facility noticed injuries around her neck and suspected that the death was not accidental. The hospital subsequently informed the police. Senior police officer Manish Thakre said officers found visible injury marks on the woman’s neck when they reached the hospital. Wardha: 12-Year-Old Girl Found Dead, Police Suspect S*xual Assault Before Murder by Stone.

Family Alleges Harassment

Dipali’s brother has alleged that Madne was involved in an extramarital relationship and had been harassing his sister over the issue. According to the family, the dispute had escalated several months ago, prompting both families to hold a meeting to resolve the matter. Although the issue was reportedly settled at the time, the alleged harassment continued. These allegations are part of the complaint and will be examined as the investigation progresses.

Murder Case Registered

Based on the complaint filed by Dipali’s brother, police registered a murder case against Madne and his parents. Madne has been arrested, while investigators are continuing to establish the sequence of events leading to Dipali’s death and determine the role, if any, of other accused family members. The investigation remains ongoing, and allegations against the accused have not yet been established in court.
