The incident occurred at approximately 2:30 AM in the Akashwani Chowk area. Upon noticing the smoke, on-duty nurses, doctors, and security personnel immediately raised the alarm and began transferring bedridden patients and newborns out of the building. Emergency responders, including local police and the fire brigade, arrived at the scene with multiple fire tenders and nearly 30 ambulances to assist with the swift evacuation process.
All nine newborns were safely shifted under medical supervision to nearby facilities, including the Government Medical College and Hospital (Ghati Hospital), MGM Hospital, and Sanjeevani Hospital. Officials confirmed that no injuries or casualties were reported among patients or staff members. Preliminary investigations indicate that an electrical short circuit in an air-conditioning unit near the intensive care unit may have triggered the fire. Local authorities and police have launched a formal inquiry to assess the cause of the fire and review the facility's safety infrastructure.
