Lucknow, June 30: At least 225 people in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal were attacked by monkeys in the last 15 days, doctors have attributed which to the scorching heat of the summer.

Locals in Sambhal have appealed the government, as well as the forest department, to crackdown on stray monkeys in the district as they have jeopardised the movement of pedestrians, especially the children and elderly.

Veterinary doctors claim the monkeys would resume normal behaviour with the onset of monsoon, as it would lower the temperature which has turned them "aggressive".

"Animals get affected by excessive heat and as a result become aggressive," said a government doctors while speaking to news agency ANI. "As of now we have enough medicines for people and in case we need more they will be procured without delay," he further added.

Reacting to the repeated complaints by the locals, UP's urban development minister Suresh Khanna said the government can't do much in case of "attacks by monkeys and dogs".
