Mumbai, July 11: In a shocking incident, a toddler in Mumbai's Goregaon area accidentally fell in an uncovered manhole (gutter) close to road on Wednesday. According to a tweet by ANI, the 3-year-old boy fell in a gutter in Ambedkar Nagar area of Goregaon around 10:24 PM on July 10. As soon as the incident was reported, police rushed to the spot to take a stock of the situation and Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) began a search operation in the area. Apart from the Fire Brigade, police, ambulance and ward staff were also pressed into action for the search and rescue of the child.
The operations continued through Thursday morning but the child could not be rescued so far. In a 0.27 second video shared by ANI, the toddler is seen walking alone around the electric box before slipping into the open manhole. The CCTV footage of the incident shows that boy falls into the gutter that is close to the edge of the road. Mumbai has been witnessing a heavy downpour since Wednesday morning. The rains are set to ease from Thursday in the city and its surrounding areas.

According to IMD, Mumbai and Thane are likely to get heavy rain at isolated places (measured as a range from 64.5-115.5 mm in a given day) on Thursday. The national Met agency also changed its warning level from 'orange' to 'yellow' for Thursday.
A similar incident was reported from Punjab in June this year where a two-year-old boy fell into 150-foot-deep abandoned borewell. The boy, identified as Fatehveer Singh was pulled out 110 hours after falling into the deep borewell in a village in Punjab's Sangrur district. The child was brought to the PGI hospital in Chandigarh, some 130 km from the accident spot, soon after he was retrieved from the well.
