Mumbai Local Train Update: Western Railway Revises Suburban Timetable Effective September 1
Western Railway introduces a revised Mumbai local timetable effective from September 1. Maintaining 1,414 total services, the update adds six new runs, withdraws six, increases weekday AC locals to 147, and extends routes and terminal points. Western Railway will introduce a revised suburban train timetable for Mumbai local services with effect from September 1. The changes include six newly introduced services, withdrawal of six existing ones, additional air-conditioned locals, extensions of certain routes, terminal adjustments, and modifications to stopping patterns and modes on several trains. The total number of suburban services remains 1,414. Passengers have been advised to check the updated details and plan journeys accordingly.
New and Withdrawn Services
Six new slow local services will begin operating. In the Up direction, these include a Bandra–Churchgate service departing Bandra at 11:58 and arriving Churchgate at 12:30, and a Virar–Borivali service leaving Virar at 23:51 and reaching Borivali at 00:26. Six existing services will be withdrawn. These cover routes between Borivali and Churchgate as well as Churchgate and Borivali or Mumbai Central, including both fast and slow trains in morning, afternoon, and evening slots.
Additional AC services
The number of AC local services on weekdays will rise from 145 to 147. Two new fast AC services have been added: one from Churchgate at 17:28 arriving Borivali at 18:20 (stopping at Mumbai Central, Dadar, Bandra, and Andheri), and another from Borivali at 18:24 arriving Churchgate at 19:15 (stopping at Andheri, Bandra, Dadar, and Mumbai Central). On Saturdays and Sundays, 116 AC services will operate.
Route Extensions and Terminal Changes
Several services have been extended. Examples include the existing Virar–Dadar fast (departing 08:23) now continuing to Churchgate (arrival 09:48), a Bhayandar–Bandra slow adjusted to start from Virar, a Dadar–Virar fast now originating from Churchgate and terminating at Nalasopara, and a Virar–Dahanu Road service reconfigured to run from Dadar as a fast train. Other adjustments extend or alter endpoints on routes involving Bandra, Andheri, Churchgate, and Virar.
Terminal changes affect multiple trains. Mode and Halt Modifications
Certain trains will switch between slow and fast modes or alter intermediate stops. For instance, a Borivali–Bhayandar service shifts from slow to fast mode, while some Churchgate–Virar and Churchgate–Malad fast services will skip selected stations such as Borivali, Jogeshwari, or Goregaon on a trial or revised basis to improve flow. Other services will add or remove specific halts to better match demand and reduce congestion, particularly around Borivali during peak periods.
Western Railway said the revisions aim to improve convenience and connectivity for Mumbai suburban passengers. Commuters are encouraged to refer to official notices, station displays, or the railway’s digital platforms for complete timings and stoppages before travelling.
