Mumbai: Man Stabbed to Death in Kandivali After ‘Mocking’ Friend During Drinking Session
A 35-year-old salesman, Shrikant Jadhav, was allegedly stabbed to death by his drinking companion, Vishnu Vishwakarma (23), behind Modern Dairy in Mumbai's Kandivali East. Police said the accused attacked Jadhav in his sleep after being mocked during a drinking session. Kurar Police registered a murder case under BNS Section 103(1) and took the accused into custody.
A 35-year-old salesman was allegedly stabbed to death by his drinking companion following an argument sparked by alleged "mocking" in Mumbai's Kandivali East early Saturday morning, September 19, a police official said on Sunday, September 20. The deceased has been identified as Shrikant Jadhav. The Kurar Police have registered a murder case and arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with the fatal attack.
According to the police, the incident took place at around 2:30 am on September 19 behind Modern Dairy in the Gokul Nagar area of Kandivali East, Mid Day reported. Shrikant was consuming alcohol with his friend Vishnu Vishwakarma, 23, and another individual identified as Sunil alias Panso. During the session, Shrikant allegedly mocked and teased Vishwakarma, which triggered a heated verbal altercation between the two. Man Allegedly Attacked While Asleep
Police officials stated that Vishwakarma allegedly harboured a grudge following the verbal confrontation. After Shrikant fell asleep in the area, the accused allegedly attacked him with a knife, stabbing him directly on the left side of his chest.
"Shrikant suffered serious injuries in the attack and died," a police official said. Following the fatal stabbing, local police launched a detailed investigation and initially detained Vishwakarma before formalizing his arrest. Murder Case Registered by Kurar Police
Following a formal complaint filed by the victim’s brother, 35-year-old Sainath Dilip Jadhav, the Kurar Police registered a case under Section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
Investigators also invoked Sections 37(1)(a) and 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951. The 23-year-old accused was subsequently remanded in custody, and police are conducting further investigations to reconstruct the sequence of events and recover the weapon used in the crime.
