Mumbai, April 7: Strengthening the city’s fast-growing urban transit network, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority has launched new operational stretches of Mumbai Metro Line 9 and Line 2B on April 7, 2026. The move is expected to significantly ease congestion and improve connectivity for lakhs of daily commuters across the western and eastern suburbs.
The newly opened section of Line 9 covers a 4.5 km stretch between Dahisar and Kashigaon, offering a faster alternative to the traffic-heavy Western Express Highway. This corridor is especially beneficial for residents of Mira-Bhayander, who have long faced road congestion during peak hours. Officials from MMRDA emphasized that these expansions are part of Mumbai’s long-term mobility plan aimed at reducing dependence on private vehicles and promoting sustainable public transport. Future phases of Line 2B will further connect major commercial hubs including Kurla and Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC).
With over 300 km of metro corridors planned, Mumbai’s transport infrastructure is undergoing a major transformation. The latest rollout of Lines 9 and 2B represents another milestone in building a faster, more efficient, and interconnected urban transit system for the city.
