Heavy monsoon showers lashed Mumbai and its neighbouring areas on Thursday, July 3, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue an urgent nowcast red alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and Raigad districts. The weather agency has forecast moderate to intense spells of rain at isolated places over the next three hours, extending until 10:45 AM.

Safety Advisories and Precautions Issued by IMD

In light of the ongoing downpour, the weather department has advised residents to exercise extreme caution. Eastern Suburbs Record Maximum Downpour

Regional rainfall data indicates that the eastern suburbs bore the brunt of the wet spell. According to the IMD, the eastern suburbs recorded the highest overall rainfall between 8:00 AM on July 1 and 7:00 AM on July 2. Mithagar Municipal School in Mulund topped the list, receiving 230.8 mm of rainfall. Heavy Spells Across the Island City and Western Suburbs

Other sectors of the metropolitan area also recorded significant precipitation during the same 23-hour window. In the island city, the F South Ward Office registered 223.8 mm of rain. The G South Ward Office followed with 208.2 mm, while the B Nadkarni Park Municipal School in Wadala recorded 206.2 mm. The western suburbs saw similarly high numbers, led by the SWM Santacruz Workshop at 223.4 mm. Other notable figures from the western belt include 222.2 mm of rain in Nariyal Wadi School, Santacruz; 213.2 mm at Andheri Fire Station; 200.8 mm at K East Ward Office and 200.6 mm at K West Ward Office. Local authorities continue to monitor the situation as the city braces for persistent rain through the morning.
