Heavy monsoon rain continued to lash Mumbai for the second consecutive day on Thursday, disrupting normal life across the city. Several low-lying areas witnessed waterlogging, road traffic slowed significantly, and suburban train services were delayed as persistent showers affected daily commuting. Local Train Services Delayed
Mumbai's suburban railway network, the city's lifeline, was affected by the heavy rain. Services on parts of the Central Railway network were delayed, with commuters experiencing waiting times of up to 25 minutes at several stations. Authorities attributed the delays to adverse weather conditions and operational precautions taken to ensure passenger safety. Railway officials advised passengers to check service updates before travelling as weather conditions continue to evolve. IMD Warns of More Heavy Rain
The IMD has forecast continued moderate to heavy rainfall over Mumbai and neighbouring districts, with alerts issued for parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, including Thane, Palghar and Raigad. The weather agency has cautioned that intense showers could lead to further waterlogging, reduced visibility and disruptions to road and rail transport. Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall and to follow official weather advisories.
Civic Agencies on Alert
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and other emergency agencies have deployed teams to monitor flooding-prone areas, clear drains and respond to complaints related to waterlogging and fallen trees. Authorities said they remain on alert as the monsoon gains strength over Maharashtra.
Mumbai experiences heavy rainfall during the southwest monsoon every year, often leading to waterlogging and transport disruptions because of the city's low-lying geography and high tidal conditions. Civic agencies routinely activate emergency response measures during periods of intense rain to minimise disruptions and ensure public safety.
