A 24-year-old woman died after being electrocuted on a waterlogged street amid heavy monsoon rainfall in the Dombivli East area of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region on Thursday. The victim, identified as Shashi Rahul Chakra, reportedly came into contact with a snapped live electrical wire that had fallen onto a flooded road while she was out purchasing essential items for her family. According to local reports, the incident occurred following consecutive days of heavy downpours that left several low-lying pockets of the city severely waterlogged. Unaware that a fallen power line had submerged into the accumulated water, Chakra stepped onto the flooded stretch and suffered an instant, fatal electric shock. The tragedy has sparked considerable public anger. Local residents have alleged severe negligence by the power distribution department, arguing that the disaster could have been averted had the live wire been cleared or if the electricity supply to the flooded zone had been disconnected in a timely manner. Following the incident, officials from the Tilak Nagar Police Station arrived at the scene to take custody of the body. Senior Inspector Pankaj Bhalerao confirmed that Chakra was transported to Shastri Nagar Hospital, where she was officially declared brought dead upon arrival. A post-mortem examination has since been conducted. Mumbai Rains: Massive Tree Falls on Marol Military Road in Andheri East, 2 Injured (Watch Video).

The incident comes amidst a string of severe weather infrastructure challenges across Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. Just a day prior, two college students were hospitalized after suffering severe electric shocks from an exposed underground power cable while wading through a waterlogged section of the Sion-Panvel Highway in Nerul. Municipal authorities and regional disaster management teams have renewed warnings to residents to avoid waterlogged roads as civic teams continue to inspect power networks for vulnerabilities.
