New Delhi, October 30: The Supreme Court on Tuesday yet again lambasted the Bihar government over its non-action into the Muzaffarpur shelter home rape cases. The court questioned the Nitish Kumar government over why former state minister Manju Verma was not arrested and also expressed shock over the fact that the girls in the shelter home were being drugged. Muzaffarpur Shelter Home Case: SC Reprimands Bihar Government, Says Brajesh Thakur Is Obstructing Probe.

“Just because she (Bihar minister Manju Verma) happens to be cabinet minister doesn’t make her above the law. The whole thing is highly suspicious. Why has she not been arrested? It’s too much. Nobody is bothered about the law," the court told the Bihar government.

Expressing shock on being informed that the girls were being drugged, the apex court said, "These girls are being injected with drugs so that they can be raped. What is this going on?” Manju Verma, Bihar Minister, Resigns After Husband's Links With Muzaffarpur Shelter Home Rape Case Accused Brajesh Thakur Emerge.

The Supreme Court also sought by October 31, a list of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officers investigating the case from September 20 till now.

The court had reprimanded the Bihar government earlier this month too. During a hearing in the case on October 25, the apex court said, "Brajesh Thakur, main accused in Muzaffarpur shelter home case appears to be a very influential person and is obstructing the investigation. It's very scary and terrible. What is the Bihar government doing?"

While perusing the status report submitted by the CBI in the Muzaffarpur shelter home probe, the court said that it revealed “shocking, horrible and scary” details of how the crime was committed.

On Monday, Chandrashekhar Verma, the absconding husband of former Bihar minister Manju Verma who had stepped down following allegations of links with the prime accused in the Muzaffarpur shelter home sex scandal case, surrendered before a court.

Over 30 girls were allegedly raped at the shelter home run by Brajesh Thakur, the chief of a state-funded NGO. The alleged sexual exploitation of the girls was first highlighted in an audit report submitted by the Tata Institute of Social Sciences to the state’s social welfare department.
