Protest Over Nashik's Stray Dog Complaints
The demonstration was organised over complaints about stray dogs in and around Niphad town. Protesters claimed that the stray-dog population had been increasing and that children, senior citizens, women and motorists were facing difficulties because of the situation.

Demands For Sterilisation And Dog-Catching Measures
Randhave demanded immediate sterilisation drives, proper dog-catching arrangements and measures to control the stray-dog population. He also raised the issue during the ongoing Ganeshotsav celebrations, claiming that stray dogs had created an atmosphere of fear for people visiting Ganesh mandals.
According to Randhave, the issue had been raised with the administration for several days but had not received an adequate response. He accused the civic administration of concentrating on tendering processes instead of addressing the stray-dog problem.
Randhave warned that if the administration failed to take action, he would repeat the demonstration. He said he could once again release stray dogs inside the Chief Officer’s office in the presence of citizens. The protest brought the issue directly into the civic office and drew attention through footage of the puppies being released inside the premises.
The Niphad demonstration comes after another unusual protest over stray dogs in Madhya Pradesh’s Khandwa last month. A man wearing a dog mask was brought to a public hearing to highlight alleged irregularities in the municipal corporation’s stray-dog sterilisation drive.
Khandwa Municipal Corporation Leader of Opposition Deepak “Mullu” Rathore used the demonstration to raise concerns about the city’s stray-dog problem. Officials subsequently assured him that a committee would be formed to examine the allegations and take appropriate action.
The incidents in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh highlight how concerns over stray-dog management have prompted unconventional forms of civic protest, with activists seeking greater attention to sterilisation, population control and public safety.
