Meerut, July 26: As hundred of Kanwar pilgrims are crowding the National Highway 58 (NH-58) passing through Uttar Pradesh's Meerut, the district administration has suspended the vehicular traffic on the route from today, July 26 to July 30. The vehicular moment will resume after the Sawan Shivratri till then, commuters on Dehradun and Haridwar route have to take a longer way. The route will be only available for emergency services like ambulances. This move is taken to avoid any inconvenience to Kanwariyas as well as commuters. The Lord Shiva devotees travel to Haridwar, Rishikesh and Gangotri to collect the holy Ganga water and reach their respective areas to offer Gangajal to Shiva, also described as Bhole. Amid terror threats, security measures have been taken by the police of northern Indian states to ensure a serene Kanwar Yatra, this season. Drones and CCTVs are being used to extensively monitor the situation. It is expected that around four crores devotees will thong the religious city of Haridwar.

Meanwhile, all schools and colleges will remain shut in Meerut and Ghaziabad for five days from July 26 to July 30 because of Saawan Shivratri 2019. This move is taken to ensure the safety of students during the Kanwar Yatra passing through the city.
