Noida Fire Video: Residents Seen Crossing Temporary Wooden Bridge During Rescue Operation

Two people died after a fire, believed to have started while an electric vehicle was being charged, swept through a residential building in Noida's Mamura village on Wednesday, July 15. The blaze erupted in the ground-floor parking area, quickly spread to nearby vehicles and filled the building with dense smoke, prompting a large-scale rescue operation in which around 50 families were evacuated.

Videos from the scene showed residents being evacuated using a temporary bridge made of wooden logs connecting the upper floors to a neighbouring building as firefighters worked to rescue those trapped inside. Temporary Wooden Bridge Used During Rescue

As thick smoke engulfed the G+4 residential building, emergency responders carried out rescue operations from multiple access points.

Authorities said approximately 50 families living in the building were evacuated during the operation.

Fire Believed to Have Started While EV Was Charging

According to Rajeev Narain, Joint Commissioner of Police, Gautam Buddha Nagar, preliminary findings indicate the fire may have started while an electric vehicle was being charged in the ground-floor parking area. The fire is believed to have spread from the EV to nearby petrol-powered vehicles, resulting in heavy smoke that travelled through the residential floors.

Narain said, "Information was received about a fire in Mamura village, which falls under Sector 66 and the Phase-3 police station limits. The Fire Services responded immediately and reached the spot in the shortest possible time. Hydraulic platforms, rescue vehicles, and seven fire tenders were deployed to carry out the firefighting and rescue operations. The building where the fire broke out is a G+4 structure housing around 50 families. All the residents were safely evacuated."

He added, "However, two people experienced health complications due to smoke inhalation. The building had parking on the ground floor, not a basement. Smoke from the parking area travelled upwards, affecting the occupants. The two individuals whose condition deteriorated due to the fumes were immediately shifted by ambulance to the district hospital. We will provide updates on their condition. They have already been taken to the hospital. Each floor accommodates about five families, with around 12 rooms configured as two-room flats. Rescue operations were conducted continuously to evacuate all the occupants safely." Authorities later confirmed that the two people died.

Building Owner, Leaseholder Detained

Narain said an FIR has been registered and both the building owner and the leaseholder have been taken into custody as part of the investigation.

He said, "According to the preliminary findings, the fire appears to have started while an electric vehicle was being charged. A spark is believed to have ignited the fire, which then spread to nearby petrol vehicles, leading to the incident. In connection with the case, an FIR is being registered under the relevant sections at Phase-3 police station. The owner of the building as well as the leaseholder have been taken into custody."

Officials said the exact cause of the fire will be established after a detailed investigation.

CM Yogi Adityanath Orders Relief Measures

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took cognisance of the incident and directed officials to oversee rescue and relief operations. He instructed authorities to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured, maintain close monitoring of the situation and expedite assistance for those affected.

Fire officials and police are continuing their investigation into the incident, including the circumstances surrounding the suspected EV charging-related fire. Authorities are expected to examine the building's fire safety measures, electrical infrastructure and compliance with safety regulations as part of the probe.
