Airport authorities, however, said the waterlogging was temporary and occurred following an intense spell of rain. Water Accumulates After Heavy Downpour
The video circulating on social media reportedly shows rainwater collected in the parking area and on the road connecting the terminal building with the parking area.
The visuals led to criticism from social media users, with questions being raised over the airport's drainage arrangements, particularly as the facility began commercial passenger operations less than two months ago. Airport authorities said the water accumulation was temporary and was cleared within approximately 30 minutes. The authorities attributed the situation to the heavy rainfall and clarified that the affected area was the connecting road between the terminal and parking area.
Congress Targets Government Over Incident
The incident also drew a political response from the Congress party. Sharing the video, Congress alleged that the situation reflected the state of the Noida International Airport under what it described as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “corrupt guidance". The allegation came after the visuals of water accumulation gained traction on social media.
Noida Airport Began Commercial Operations in June
Noida International Airport was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 28, 2026. Commercial passenger operations at the Jewar airport began on June 15, with IndiGo operating the first scheduled flight.
Located in Jewar in Gautam Buddh Nagar, the airport is being developed as a major aviation hub for the Delhi-NCR region and western Uttar Pradesh. Its first phase was developed at an investment of around INR 11,200 crore.
Waterlogging Raises Infrastructure Questions
The incident comes less than two months after commercial flight operations began at the airport and has put the facility's drainage infrastructure under scrutiny following the heavy rainfall.
While the circulating video prompted criticism, airport authorities maintained that the water accumulation was temporary and that the affected area was cleared within around 30 minutes. The airport is expected to continue operations as authorities monitor conditions following the rainfall.
