Lucknow, July 24: Known for his controversial remarks, senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan on Wednesday issued an appeal to Muslims across India. Khan said in order to secure their future, the Indian Muslims should stop cow trading and pull out of dairy businesses.

The Rampur legislator's statement came in backdrop of the lynching of one Rakbar Khan alias Akbar in Rajasthan's Alwar. The 32-year-old, a resident of Haryana's Kol village in Nuh district, was beaten to death by a mob of alleged cow vigilantes in Lalvadi village of Alwar on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday.

Here is what Azam Khan said while reacting to Rakbar's lynching:

Earlier in the day, BJP veteran and Rajasthan cabinet minister Jaswant Yadav said the Muslim community should "respect the sentiments" of Hindus by aborting the consumption of beef. His remarks came while reacting to the lynching of Rakbar Khan.

Apart from Yadav, senior RSS functionary Indresh Kumar said the solution to end the spree of lynchings is a complete ban on the consumption of beef.

Meanwhile, a preliminary inquiry conducted by the Rajasthan government has found the assistant police inspector of Ramgarh range, Mohan Singh, responsible for the death of Rakbar as he delayed his admission to the community healthcare centre.

"Our inquiry has found the ASI stopped for tea while taking the victim to the hospital. This was his mistake and we have suspended him for the same," said state home minister Gulab Chand Kataria.
