Addressing the gathering, Modi recalled taking oath as Gujarat Chief Minister on October 7, 2001, saying he had not imagined at the time that he would reach the milestone of completing 25 consecutive years as head of a government. He said the milestone was a result of the continued blessings and trust of the people. Modi expressed gratitude to the BJP, the NDA and political colleagues who, he said, had faith in democracy. ‘People’s Trust My Greatest Strength’
During his address, Modi said the trust of millions of Indians and the hard work of party workers had been central to his journey. “For me, the people are also a form of God,” he said, adding that the country had given him a great deal and therefore his responsibility towards it was also the greatest. He further said that every citizen of the country had the “greatest right” over him. Modi also said that people had repeatedly chosen him to serve them through Assembly and Lok Sabha elections over the past 25 years.

Reflecting on his political journey, Modi said he bowed his head before the people of the country and paid his respects to India's democracy and Constitution. His remarks came as the BJP organised events across the country to mark the completion of 25 years since he first took charge as Gujarat Chief Minister. The Viksit Bharat Sankalp Sabha was part of the broader Seva Sankalp programme, with BJP leaders, workers and supporters participating in events in different parts of the country.
From Gujarat Chief Minister to Prime Minister
Modi became Gujarat Chief Minister on October 7, 2001, succeeding Keshubhai Patel. He remained in the post until 2014 before becoming Prime Minister after the BJP-led NDA secured a majority in the Lok Sabha election. Earlier on Wednesday, Modi visited the Shri Vinayak Mandir in Sarojini Nagar, New Delhi, where he offered prayers and performed aarti on the occasion of completing 25 years in public office. He said he prayed for the happiness, prosperity and good health of people across the country.
Union Cabinet Marks 25 Years of Public Service
The milestone was also marked by the Union Cabinet, which on Tuesday adopted a resolution commemorating Modi's 25 years of continuous leadership as head of government. The resolution covered his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister and Prime Minister and highlighted various government initiatives and policy measures during this period. The day's Viksit Bharat Sankalp Sabha therefore combined Modi's reflection on his 25-year political journey with his message on public trust, democratic institutions and the continuing goal of building a developed India by 2047.
