New Delhi, August 4: Resident Doctors Association (RDA) called off strike on Sunday. The decision was taken after the General Body Meeting of RDA, officials of All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan. After the meeting, the executive committee conveyed the decision of withdrawing the strike and resuming of all services by Resident Doctors on Monday. However, the committee asked the AIIMS to consider strike period between August 1 and 3 as on duty.

On Saturday, AIIMS, Delhi directed all the members of the RDA and Students’ Union, who are protesting against the National Medical Commission (NMC) Bill, 2019, to resume their duties with immediate effect. Security was tightened outside the AIIMS campus and Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi. The doctors have been boycotting work and demonstrating over certain provisions of the Bill since Thursday. The NMC bill was passed by the Lok Sabha on Monday. The bill was passed 260-48 by a voice vote. The bill proposes to repeal the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956, and set up an NMC replacing the Medical Council of India (MCI).
