In a major crackdown, the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Pune Zone-1, conducted a raid at BG Goyal & Company, a food trading shop located in the busy Market Yard area, seizing over 4,100 kilograms of food products worth Rs 8.14 lakh, officials confirmed. The establishment is owned by local businessman Pravin Goyal, the father of Siya Goyal, who is currently under arrest as the primary accused in the high-profile Ketan Agarwal murder case.

According to FDA officials, the raid was initiated on July 14 following specific inputs. Upon inspection, authorities discovered that the shop was operating a large food storeroom without a valid food business license, violating regulatory norms. During the search, the FDA team seized a total of 4,172 kilograms of food products valued at Rs 8,14,630. Officials expressed concerns over potential safety hazards, citing clear label contraventions and suspicion that some of the stored products were substandard and unsafe for public consumption. The seized stock includes:

  • Sadhu Brand Turmeric Powder: 1,258 kg

  • Sant Brand Turmeric Powder: 598 kg

  • Madhur Soya Mini Chunks: 1,778 kg

  • Green Leaf Sesame Seeds: 538 kg

Investigators have collected four representative samples from these specific brands—Sant Turmeric, Sadhu Turmeric, Green Leaf Sesame Seeds, and Madhur Soya Mini Chunks—and dispatched them to a government laboratory for rigorous chemical and safety analysis. Pending the results of the laboratory tests, the FDA has issued an immediate "stop-business" notice to BG Goyal & Company, effectively halting all trading operations at the shop.

The raid comes amid intense public and police scrutiny surrounding the Goyal family. Pravin Goyal's daughter, Siya Goyal (20), was arrested last month alongside her associate, Pranav Chaudhary, for their alleged involvement in the murder of her fiancé, 25-year-old Pune businessman Ketan Agarwal. Ketan Agarwal Murder Case: Police Say Circumstantial Evidence Strong, but Securing Conviction May Be Challenging.

Agarwal, a director of the Success Group, died on June 18 after falling from a cliff at Lohagad Fort near Lonavala. While the incident was initially reported as an accidental fall during a trekking trip, a subsequent police investigation—aided by CCTV footage of a suspect wearing a hoodie in extreme summer heat—revealed a suspected pre-planned conspiracy. Police allege that Siya Goyal and Chaudhary lured Agarwal to an isolated spot on the fort and pushed him into the valley. Both remain in custody as police continue to build the charge sheet.

FDA officials have maintained that the raid on the Market Yard shop was part of their routine compliance and food safety drives in the city, aimed at weeding out unlicensed operations and substandard food distribution.
