Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi's proposed student outreach programme in Prayagraj has run into a hurdle after the Kayastha Pathshala (KP) Trust withdrew permission for the event venue, just days before it was scheduled to be held on August 8. The programme, titled 'Chhatron Ki Goonj', was intended to facilitate an interaction with students on issues such as examination paper leaks, recruitment delays and unemployment, according to a report.

KP Trust Revokes Venue Permission

The event was to be organised at KP Ground in Prayagraj. However, the Kayastha Pathshala Trust informed the Congress that it was withdrawing permission for the use of the venue. According to the trust, the decision was based on an Allahabad High Court order. Other reports also said the trust cited concerns including waterlogging at the ground while communicating its decision. Rahul Gandhi Demands Justice for Students, Shares Video Alleging Police Brutality During NEET Protest.

Congress Alleges Political Pressure

Congress leaders alleged that the venue permission was cancelled under political pressure and accused the Uttar Pradesh government of attempting to prevent Rahul Gandhi from interacting with students.

The party said the outreach programme was aimed at highlighting issues affecting young people, including competitive examination irregularities, recruitment delays and job opportunities. It maintained that efforts were being made to ensure the event goes ahead as planned. 'Stop This Nonsense of Thrashing Students': Rahul Gandhi Demands PM Modi's Apology Over Police Crackdown.

Student Outreach Part of Nationwide Campaign

Rahul Gandhi's Prayagraj visit is part of the Congress' 'Chhatron Ki Goonj' campaign, a nationwide initiative focused on engaging with students and addressing concerns related to education and employment.

The Prayagraj programme was expected to bring together students preparing for various competitive examinations, with Gandhi scheduled to hear their grievances and discuss issues such as alleged paper leaks and unemployment.

Event Schedule Remains Unchanged

Despite the cancellation of the original venue, Congress leaders said preparations for Rahul Gandhi's August 8 visit were continuing and that alternative arrangements were being explored. As of Thursday, there was no indication that the visit itself had been cancelled, although the party was yet to announce a revised venue for the student interaction.
