Farmer Buried Cash Secretly To Build A Room On His Farm

According to a report in TOI, the farmer, Mangilal Meghwal, a resident of Pachpadra, secretly buried INR 5 lakh in cash in his field around a year ago. The man wanted to use the money to build a room on his farm.

He Hid The Money From His Own Family

Mangilal felt that his family would spend the money if he told them about it, and also feared it could be stolen if kept at home. He therefore wrapped the cash in a plastic bag, dug a hole in his field and buried it secretly at night, without informing his family. Students Lock School Gates Over Teacher’s Transfer in Maharashtra’s Amravati; Emotional Video Goes Viral.

However, the man reportedly has a habit of drinking alcohol and also suffers from forgetfulness. When he later needed the cash to build the room, he realised he could no longer remember exactly where he had buried it.

Days Of Digging Failed To Locate The Cash

Mangilal then began digging up his field in search of the cash packet, but despite several days of searching, he failed to locate it. He owns a total of 10 bighas of land, which made the search even more difficult. Rajasthan Village Gets First Roadways Bus Nearly 79 Years After Independence, Villagers Celebrate With Aarti, Drums and Flowers (Videos).

After failing to find the money himself, he told his wife and sons about it, though they initially did not believe him. The family later joined him in digging the field together, but they too could not find the cash after days of searching, and eventually gave up.

Around a year later, as the monsoon arrived, the family prepared the farm for sowing and used a tractor to plough the land. During the process, the plastic bag was brought to the surface, though it went unnoticed that evening.

The next morning, Mangilal's wife and son spotted the bag while working in the field. On opening it, they found the money Mangilal had been talking about, but the cash had been entirely destroyed by termites after remaining buried in the soil for more than a year.

Banks Refuse To Accept Damaged Notes

The family collected the damaged notes and approached the Pachpadra branch of State Bank of India, but the bank refused to accept them due to their condition. They then went to SBI's main branch in Balotra, where they faced the same problem. The bank manager advised them to visit the SBI branch in Jaipur instead.

However, Mangilal's family said they did not have the means to travel to Jaipur and were also unfamiliar with the process of exchanging damaged currency. Mangilal is now said to be regretting his decision to hide the cash, with his wife left in tears and his sons angry over the loss.
