Balotra, March 26: A local man in Rajasthan’s Balotra district has died by suicide following the viral circulation of a video showing him apologising inside a police station. The family of the deceased, identified as Gautam Jeengar, alleges that he was driven to the extreme step by relentless harassment and public shaming orchestrated by local moneylenders. According to a police report filed by the victim’s brother, Anil Songara, the dispute began over a loan of ₹20,000 that Jeengar had borrowed from local creditors. Although Jeengar had reportedly provided his mobile phone—valued at approximately ₹30,000—as security, the creditors allegedly continued to threaten and pressure him for repayment.
The situation escalated when the creditors, identified as Prince Nagoura and his father Vinod Nagora, allegedly took Jeengar to the Sindhari police station. While on the premises, an "apology video" of Jeengar was recorded. This footage was subsequently leaked and shared widely on social media platforms, causing the victim significant mental distress. Police Response and Investigation
Authorities stated that a meeting had previously taken place at the station where both parties reached a consensus regarding the repayment of the debt. However, despite the mediation, the apology video was made public, leading to further humiliation for Jeengar. “Two individuals have been detained for questioning based on the report filed by the family,” a police official confirmed. The investigation is currently focusing on how the video was recorded within the police station and the circumstances that led to its digital circulation.
Community Protest
Following the news of Jeengar's death, family and community members organized a dharna (protest) outside the hospital mortuary. The protesters are demanding strict action against the creditors and an inquiry into the police's role in allowing a private video to be recorded and leaked from within the station.
The body of the deceased remains at the mortuary pending further legal formalities, as the local administration attempts to pacify the grieving family and ensure a fair investigation into the allegations of abetment to suicide.
