A 22-year-old unemployed man was allegedly murdered by his parents in Gundala village of Gondal taluka, Rajkot district, following frequent alcohol-fueled domestic disputes. The victim, identified as Ram Bambhava, died on June 30. According to the First Information Report (FIR) registered by his 20-year-old wife, Bansi, an argument broke out when Ram returned home in an inebriated state. During the altercation, his mother, Manisha Bambhava, 45, allegedly forced acid down his throat, while his father, Babu Bambhava, 47, gagged and strangled him as he tried to resist. The incident came to light following an investigation prompted by suspicious circumstances surrounding the death. Rajkot Superintendent of Police Vijay Singh Gurjar stated that a forensic examination revealed distinct strangulation marks on the victim’s neck, establishing it as the official cause of death rather than acid consumption.
According to police records, Ram had been unemployed and looking for work, while his father operated a local tea stall. The victim had been married to Bansi for five months, during which frequent arguments occurred between Ram and his father due to his drinking habits.
The day before the incident, Ram reportedly had a dispute at his father-in-law’s house under the influence of alcohol, after which his father was called to take him back to Gundala village. Following the murder, the parents reportedly pressured Bansi to keep the incident quiet to protect the family’s reputation, initially reporting the death as a suicide. Investigating Officer UR Damor confirmed that the accused parents were arrested on July 2 and produced before a local court on July 3. Authorities have seized the acid bottle, clothes worn by the accused, and a bedsheet from the crime scene as evidence.
