The suspect reportedly used a variety of personas—posing as a doctor, businessman, or film producer—to target women on dating and matrimonial platforms. Once he established a rapport, he would exploit the victims' trust by fabricating stories of medical emergencies, business losses, or career-making opportunities. In several instances, the fraud escalated to extortion. Investigators revealed that the accused would threaten to leak private photographs and videos of the victims unless they met his financial demands. The scam came to light after a victim filed a complaint alleging she had been defrauded of ₹7 lakh under a false promise of marriage. During the raid, Delhi Police recovered four mobile phones, eight SIM cards, three debit cards, and gold jewelry believed to be purchased with the proceeds of the crime. Officials utilized social media monitoring and digital tracing to pin the suspect’s location in West Bengal. The Delhi Police have urged citizens to remain vigilant on social media and report any suspicious activity to the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.
